EV charging in Portsmouth and Southsea: what to know

The Pompey Centre is a retail park on Fratton Way in the east of Portsmouth, between Fratton, Milton and Southsea. The Source EV hub sits across the car park from McDonald's, so it is an easy stop if you live in Southsea, work in the city or are heading out towards the A27 and the M27 via the A2030.

What to do while you charge

A 30 to 40 minute rapid charge is enough for a Tesco shop, a coffee at Costa or a quick meal at McDonald's, KFC or Subway. B&Q and Topps Tiles are on the same site if you are picking something up for the house.

Charging on match days

The Pompey Centre is right next to Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth FC. On match days the maximum stay drops to 1 hour and the car park fills up quickly, so it is not the place to leave your car for the game. Charge before kick-off or after the crowds have gone.

Who charges here

Much of Portsmouth is terraced housing without driveways, so many drivers in Southsea, Fratton and Milton rely on public charging. Taxi and private hire drivers top up here between jobs too, because the hub never closes and every eligible session earns PowerGoodies points.

Driving on? Every Source EV hub in the UK and Ireland earns the same 2 points per kWh, in the same PowerGoodies account.

⚡ Charging speed

CCS up to 150 kW, plus CHAdeMO and a 22 kW Type 2 AC charger. How fast your car charges depends on the car and its battery.

💷 Prices

Source EV publishes current prices per hub on source-ev.com. With a roaming card, your card provider sets the price.

🕒 Opening hours

The chargers are available 24/7, every day of the year. Parking is limited to 2 hours, and to 1 hour on Portsmouth FC match days.
