How busy are the charging points in Schaerbeek?
Every hour we check how many charging points in Schaerbeek are in use. Out of that grows a picture of what normal looks like: which hours fill up, which days stay quiet, and whether it is getting busier month over month. Below is what we have measured so far.
How we measure this
The figures come from the Belgian charge point data of Eco-Movement, published via the national access point transportdata.be (licence CC BY 4.0). Operators report there how many bays they have and how many are free. We fetch that every hour and keep the count, so a series builds up.
A status is only refreshed when something happens. Operators do not send updates on the clock; they report a change when someone plugs in or unplugs. A charging point reported as occupied at 22:00 that has said nothing since is therefore still occupied — otherwise there would have been an unplug report. That is why we count every location whose feed reported something in the past 24 hours: right now — locations with — charging points between them. Feeds that have been silent for more than a day are stuck on an old state and are left out (currently — locations).
Occupied means: not available. Usually a car is plugged in, charged or still charging. Occasionally a point is out of order or reserved; the feed does not tell the difference, so neither do we.
The count is shown everywhere. If the number of active feeds drops, a change in the percentage is just as likely a change in who is reporting. Without that number a chart is a pretty picture with nothing to hold on to.
What we do not measure. Only public charging points within the municipal boundary of Schaerbeek, as operators report them, and only charge points that report their status. Private and home chargers are not in the feed. Because we measure once an hour, changes within the hour do not show up.
