How busy are the charging points in Haarlem?
Every five minutes we check how many charging bays are in use. Out of that grows a picture of what normal looks like: which hours fill up, which days stay quiet, and whether it is getting busier month over month. Below is what we have measured so far.
How we measure this
The figures come from DOT-NL, the Dutch national access point for charge point data, run by NDW (Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, CC0). Operators publish there how many bays they have and how many are free. We fetch that every five minutes and keep the count, so a series builds up.
Not every operator refreshes diligently. At the time of writing, — charging points had a status less than an hour old; for the rest, the last reported state is older, sometimes by half a day. A charging point reported as occupied last night that has said nothing since would otherwise still count as occupied. That is why the percentages on this page are calculated only over the charging points that reported something in the past hour. It is a smaller group, but it is one you can actually say something about.
That is also why the sample size is shown everywhere. If it drops, a change in the percentage is just as likely a change in who is reporting. Without that number a chart is a pretty picture with nothing to hold on to.
What we do not measure. Whether anyone is actually drawing power: a car that has finished charging but stays parked counts as occupied. We also only see public charging points — private and home chargers are not in the feed. And Leap24 does not publish to DOT-NL (yet), so we cannot show occupancy for those locations.
